Since February 2023 the CEDAW Committee, a body of 23 independent experts that monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, is working on the new General Recommendation N40 on Women’s Political Participation. This new General Recommendation will focus on CEDAW articles n7 and n8, which protect women’s political and civic righs.

European Network of Migrant Women has submitted our analysis on the obstacles faced by migrant women, as well as women in general, in political participation. Our submission has been informed by the work of some of our members, as well as by our work on the Political Participation of Young Migrant Women.
