BREAKING THE SILENCE: VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AS TORTURE

The Portuguese Association against Femicide invites you to the event Breaking the Silence: ‘Violence against Women as Torture’ to be held on the 16th of December 2023, from 9:30 till 12h45 WEST.

Overview of the FULFIL Project

The main objective of FULFIL is to build the capacity of legal professionals in the EU, as well as equality bodies, diplomatic missions, and law enforcement agencies in France, Italy, and Portugal, for more effective use of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in legal support, intervention, and litigation, at the national and EU level, in cases of violations of the fundamental rights of migrant women.

About the Event

It has taken many years to include women’s experiences of violence in work against torture and to think of torture as an appropriate term for women’s experiences of violence. In recent years there has been progress on both fronts. How does thinking about connections between torture (and its legal regulation) strengthen our work on violence against women? What have been the main developments at the European Court of Human Rights in conceptualizing several forms of violence against women as torture?
