MOTERIS Calls for Dedicated EU Funding for Women’s Rights Organisations as MFF Negotiations Advance

Press Release

On 29 September 2026, MOTERIS partners and women’s rights organisations from across Europe gathered in Brussels to urge EU decision-makers to secure sustainable and dedicated funding for women’s rights organisations as negotiations advance on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).

Women’s rights organisations perform essential work in combating men’s violence against women and addressing structural inequalities across political, economic, social, and cultural spheres throughout every stage of women’s lives.

Key Findings of the MOTERIS Research

The MOTERIS research highlights three major challenges facing women’s rights groups across Europe:

  • Chronic funding insecurity: Organisations rely heavily on short-term project funding and receive little to no core operational support.
  • Growing political pressure: Group independence is threatened as funding and participation are increasingly conditioned by funders’ priorities, ranging from authoritarian agendas to “inclusive” policies that dilute the focus on women.
  • Shrinking civic space: Organisations face limited influence in decision-making, alongside increasing online and offline harassment, intimidation, and legal pressure.
