ENoMW Position
Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to have devastating and disproportionate consequences for women and girls, including displacement, conflict-related sexual violence, and heightened insecurity. Despite the central impact of the war on their lives, there remains a serious lack of meaningful participation of women leaders and feminist civil society in decision-making processes concerning peace and security in Europe.
The European Network of Migrant Women (ENoMW) is concerned that women’s rights may further deteriorate and stresses that war must not be used to justify the rollback of women’s rights and protections under the guise of wartime necessity.
ENoMW further emphasises the importance of ensuring that women’s rights remain central to discussions on peace, security, and post-conflict recovery. Women and girls must not bear the burden of conflict while being excluded from the decisions that shape their futures.
Furthermore, ENoMW asserts that prostitution is violence against women and calls for the deletion of the word “forced” from European Recommendations, stating there is no volunteer prostitution during conflicts and war.
As a feminist secular migrant-women led platform, ENoMW continues to advocate for the rights, freedoms, and dignity of migrant, refugee, and ethnic minority women and girls in Europe.
