Cyberbullying and Violence Against Women and Girls
A feminist perspective on digital safety and equality
Cyberbullying is not only a youth issue but a critical dimension of violence against women and girls (VAWG). It mirrors and amplifies structural inequalities, reinforcing male violence against women and power imbalances. For migrant women, these risks are compounded by barriers in accessing support, legal remedies, and psychosocial services.
Our submission offers targeted recommendations to strengthen the EU Action Plan against Cyberbullying, ensuring it explicitly integrates a sex-based informed approach. We call for robust definitions of digital violence, disaggregated data collection, stronger platform accountability, multilingual and culturally sensitive victim support, and harmonised measures across Member States.
Embedding these measures will help secure safer digital spaces, equitable access to justice, and an online environment where women, girls, and minors can participate fully and without fear.
