CEDAW REGIONAL EXPERT MEETING: OUTCOMES

On 30 August 2019, European Network of Migrant Women, along with a group of civil society experts, participated in the regional CEDAW Consultation expert meeting [Consultation on CEDAW Art 6], organised by our Finnish member MONIKA -Multicultural Women Association (and umbrella platform of 16 migrant women NGOs in Finland) and National Council of Women of Finland. The outcomes of the meeting state: “The Monika – Multicultural Women’s Association, Finland and the National Council of Women of Finland underline that trafficking in human beings and exploitation in prostitution are severe forms of violence against women. We urge the importance to take all necessary efforts to decrease and prevent these human rights violations. We strongly encourage the CEDAW to re-consider the chosen framework of the forthcoming General Recommendation on Trafficking of Women and Girls in the Context of Global Migration and protect women and girls from violence and exploitation as well as […]

SMART VOLUNTEERING FOR FEMALE MIGRANTS: FINAL CONFERENCE

Brussels, 22 November 2019 On 21 November we held the final  conference of the EU-Funded AMIF project “SMART Volunteering for Female Migrants“, hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), that focused on a multi-stakeholder approach to labour integration of migrant women by means of structured volunteering, as a potential path to employment in Europe. Over 60 participants, including the EU-wide platforms, policy-makers, specialist NGOs and individual migrant women, came together to listen, exchange and discuss the intersections between employment, volunteering and migration policies, with specific focus on highly skilled migrant women, and the role different actors – such as NGOs, business and migrant women themselves – can play in facilitating female migrants’ access to labour market.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: WE ARE SAFE IN OUR CITY

Vilnius, 12-14 November 2019 European Network of Migrant Women took part, in the capacity of representative of European Women’s Lobby (EWL), in the international conference and an expert meeting, We are Safe in Our City, organised by the Lithuanian National Association of Women Rights, Women’s Issues Information Centre and the Klaipeda Social and Psychological Services Centre.  The Conference was dedicated to discussing the manifestations of violence against women, its consequences, legal effects and liability, with a particular focus on sexual violence, sharing the best practices on prevention, assistance to the victims of violence and interinstitutional cooperation. It brought together international experts and professionals working in the field from Icelandic, Latvian, Estonian, Swedish, Ukrainian, UK and US non-governmental and victim support organizations and specialists of the Specialized Assistance Centers, stakeholders from regional law enforcement authorities, Ministries representatives.

COUNCIL OF EUROPE: THIRD REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

Narrowing the gap between rhetoric and practice to protect women and girls from violence at the core of the 3rd Workshop held in Madrid, Spain on the 3 July European Network of Migrant Women participated in the 3rd Workshop for the Empowerment of Women, organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Casa Árabe.  ENOMW’s Strategy Coordinator Anna Zobnina chaired the session “Building cross-border cooperation in protecting refugee and asylum seeking women and girls”, with the speakers from the UN WOMEN, Gender and Migration Unit, and IOM’s Human Trafficking Focal Point.

Unseen victims, untold stories – Why violence faced by asylum seeking and refugee women remains invisible in the European Union? Tuesday, September 17, 2019, 11:00  –  13:00COPERNICO SCIENCE14, 14b Rue de la Science, Brussels We warmly invite you on the 17th of September at 11 am, to discuss, what can be done to assure that asylum seeking women victims of gender-based violence can access their rights in the European Union. In this event we will present findings from a project titled “Co-creating a counselling method for refugee women gender-based violence victims” funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme.  In the project we used innovative research methodologies to collect information on the phenomena of gender-based violence in the refugee context, and to uncover the stories of the women.
